Engaging with Music in the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music
Inner Odyssey program (Bonny) and Faith Program (Bruscia)

There are many ways to explore new music programs. Helen Bonny outlined many options for listening and moving with the music programs in order to internalize the music structure, form, and emotional potential. Ferrara (1984) puts forward a 5-step phenomenological model for exploring new music, and Booth’s Music, Drawing and Narrative (MDN) offers other possibilities. Furthermore, the music scores contain hidden insights that can expand our understanding of the composer’s intention for the music composition, and this may inform when and why we choose music for clients’ needs. Various media will be incorporated to study the Inner Odyssey program (Bonny) and the Faith program (Bruscia), and these may become models we can use for engaging with new music.
