AMI's Leadership Circle

The Circle
As a non-profit professional organization, the Association for Music and Imagery is directed by an executive board of elected officers known as the leadership Circle. These officers have all the usual responsibilities of overseeing the communications, activities, and finances of an organization. However, the name “Circle” reminds us that the organization of AMI conducts its business in a manner consistent with values shared by Bonny Method practitioners and trainers. We find unity and strength in the circle as a form of leadership. AMI members participate in the activities of AMI in many and varied ways: through AMI committees, AMI membership meetings and conferences, through writing for AMI publications, or by offering or participating in continuing education activities. Increasingly, as we appreciate the global nature of our work, and the growing presence of AMI members and members of other Bonny Method organizations around the world, the concept of Circle can be seen as a series of circles, where the positive influences of The Bonny Method are active through our work, moving out into the world

Attunement
Unique to the governance process of AMI is the practice of attunement before making decisions as a group. When the Circle meets, and when the members meet for business, any important decision is preceded by a process of Attunement, in which we enter into a quiet, receptive state together, in order to access and share from a deeper source of wisdom than we usually find in our ordinary states of awareness. We take time to listen . Listening both within and to each other helps us to consider all the available information and to make decisions not by embracing a dominant argument or from a hierarchical perspective of authority, but by finding clarity and wisdom born out of our unity. The leadership Circle of AMI looks to this shared wisdom and also acknowledges AMI members' knowledge, skills, and time given in volunteer service. Important volunteer service is contributed by appointed officers who edit the Journal of the AMI and the newsletter, Bonny Method Resources. The appointed Executive Secretary manages the AMI office and has duties as secretary and treasurer for the organization. Together we share a commitment to the process of upholding The Bonny Method. .
